Delhi Capitals Fall Short by 14 Runs, Now Focused on Comeback Against Sunrisers Hyderabad

New Delhi, April 30 — Delhi Capitals’ hopes of climbing further up the IPL 2025 points table were dented on Tuesday night after a 14-run defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Chasing a formidable total of 204, Delhi managed to post 190 despite strong efforts from top-order and middle-order batters.

Faf du Plessis (62 off 45), captain Axar Patel (43 off 23), and young batter Vipraj Nigam (38 off 19) displayed solid intent, but the team fell just short of the target.

Vipraj Nigam Reflects on Tactical Decisions and Shot Choices

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Vipraj Nigam admitted that poor shot selection played a critical role in the loss.

“Our plan was to target their two main spinners, and we executed that part well. However, at certain key moments, shot selection was poor, and that’s where the game slipped away from us,” said Nigam.

When asked about the decision to bowl first after winning the toss, Nigam explained:

“We expected dew later in the innings, which would have helped with batting. But that didn’t happen. The pitch remained batting-friendly throughout, as seen from both sides scoring 190-plus runs.”

Positive Team Environment Key to Development, Says Nigam

Nigam also spoke about his personal growth and support from senior players:

“Cricket is a journey of ups and downs. The key is mindset and the team environment. I’ve received great support from Axar bhaiya, KL bhaiya, and other seniors,” he noted.

On his camaraderie with fellow teammate Kuldeep Yadav, Nigam said:

“We’ve played a lot of domestic cricket together. That bond helps on and off the field. It’s always great to have someone like him in the team.”
