Jaipur, May 4 (H.S.) The Rajasthan Meteorological Department has issued alerts for thunderstorms, rain, and hailstorms across several districts of the state from May 5 to May 7. Amid rising temperatures, the upcoming weather pattern could offer temporary relief from intense summer heat, though it also brings safety risks due to lightning and strong winds.
A significant western disturbance is active over the region, and as a result, areas such as Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Pali are likely to experience heavy rain and gusty winds between May 5 and 7, with Barmer, Jalore, and nearby districts expected to receive heavier rainfall from May 6 to 7.
Thunderstorms Cause Fatalities and DamageOn Saturday afternoon, an abrupt change in weather swept across multiple regions in Rajasthan. Dark clouds blanketed the sky, creating an eerie dusk-like atmosphere during the day. Several districts including Jaipur, Dausa, Sikar, Jhunjhunu, Kota, Bhilwara, Nagaur, Tonk, Bundi, Sawai Madhopur, and Jaisalmer witnessed rain and hailstorms.
Tragically, a woman was killed by a lightning strike in the Au area of Jodhpur, while a police constable named Devkaran lost his life on Mandore Road when a tree collapsed due to the storm.
In Jhalawar, strong winds damaged crops in fields and storage yards, and wedding tents were uprooted in multiple areas, disrupting celebrations.
Temperature Trends and Heatwave UpdateDespite the showers, temperatures in several parts of the state remain high. Chittorgarh recorded the highest daytime temperature at 43°C, while nine cities reported temperatures above 41°C. Phalodi recorded the highest nighttime minimum temperature at 31.8°C.
The weather department has confirmed no heatwave conditions are expected in Rajasthan for the next seven days. Daytime temperatures may gradually dip, providing much-needed relief to residents.
Advisory Issued by IMDThe Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that wind speeds may reach up to 50 km/h, potentially causing reduced visibility and increasing the risk of falling trees and power line disruptions.
People are advised to avoid open areas, especially fields and locations near power infrastructure, during inclement weather. Extra precautions are urged to prevent lightning-related injuries and property damage.
