Whether they're poached, fried or scrambled, eggs remain a staple in almost all kitchens across the UK, but adding just one everyday ingredient could take the delicious food to the next level, according to one chef.
The hugely dynamic and popular food item has been an ever present in our diets for centuries, but there has been an eternal debate about the best way to enjoy the popular breakfast dish.
However, in a recent YouTube video posted by Chef Brian's Kitchen, he shared one everyday ingredient that he believes will take scrambled eggs to the next level.
Undertaking the usual steps of adding the eggs to a bowl, adding salt and then whisking, he then adds them to a pan that is already lined with melted butter and oil.
However, as he leaves the eggs to scramble and cook for a minute or two, he then added the secret ingredient, which is revealed to be mayonnaise.
Explaining why the condiment is such an important addition to the dish, he explained that the answer lies in the science behind it: "Part of the learning of cooking is learning the science of it."
Unpicking exactly what it is that makes the sauce such a crucial addition to the dish, he said that it is largely linked to how similar mayonnaise actually is to the core ingredients of scrambled eggs: "If you make homemade mayonnaise, it's just egg yolks that are emulsified with some oil and it turns into mayonnaise.
"So you're really adding more of the same inside of these eggs so it all makes sense. But, what it does is it creates this unbelievable soft scramble like no other."
When the dish is finally ready to plate up, he said that people will be taken aback by how significanlty the mayonnaise manages to affect how moist the dish is: "When people taste it, they are going to be like 'wow, I had no idea eggs could taste this good'. Now you have a little trick that will up your game."
While Chef Brian shared his top tip for how to take scrambled eggs to the next level, many others have also shared their tips and tricks on how to elevate the dish.
During a 2017 episode of MasterChef, Gordon Ramsay revealed how adding creme fraiche helps it take it to a "different level". He said: "Here is where it goes to a completely different level. Take a tablespoon of creme fraiche. That gives a really nice creamy texture. More importantly, it stops (the eggs) from overcooking."
