For me, there's nothing better than getting into bed and being all cosy and warm - especially when it's cold and miserable outside. And with the weather getting increasingly colder and rain practically an everyday occurrence, any opportunity to make things more snug is welcome. However, it might feel a little bit too soon to start blasting the heating.
That's where a heated blanket can come in. They're great for popping into bed to heat up before you get in. And while there are loads to choose from, right now the StaySnug Sherpaking-size heated underblanket from Lakeland is discounted by 20%. The king size usually retails for £69.99 but right now its just £55.99.
Unlike a heated blanket that you pop on top of the bed, this one's a little different. It's an under blanket, which means it goes on top of your mattress but under your bedding-keeping the inside of your bed lovely and toasty. It warms you from underneath, letting your duvet do its job without having to battle the cold on both sides. The handy straps also help keep it in place, so you're not waking up halfway through the night with one side freezing and the other side roasting.
The blanket comes in a choice of sizes: single (currently £31.99), double (currently £47.99), and, of course, the king size. According to Lakeland, it's made from a soft sherpa material for added warmth and extra cosiness.
In addition, the king-size and double blankets have dual controls. That means two people can use them in bed and set them to their desired temperature.
It's got six different heat settings, so you can pick what feels right for you-whether that's gently warm or seriously snug. Safety-wise, it's got you covered, too. There are three timer settings, so you can drift off without stressing that it's still on full blast at 3am. Plus, it has built-in overheat protection, which is always good for peace of mind when it comes to electric bedding.
One of the best bits, though, is that it's machine-washable at 30C-just don't forget to detach the controller first.
In a review, a shopper said it's been "perfect for winter nights". They added: "Lovely soft and cosy underblanket that is easy to attach to the corners of the bed. I really like that it has a time setting and switches off automatically, and also that it has dual controls so that I can heat just one side of the bed. A luxurious replacement for my previous underblanket."
A second customer added, "I needed a new electric blanket for the spare room, as we quite often have friends or family over. I popped this on, which was very easy to fit. I turned it on for a wee afternoon nap at the weekend (my excuse to try it). It heated up pretty fast and kept me cosy for the entire snooze. I like that it has different controls on each side. I'm very happy with this."
Of course, since it's designed for under-blanket use, you'll still want to sleep with a duvet over the top. If you were hoping it might replace your duvet altogether, this probably isn't the one-but if you're after something to snuggle up in, a more traditional over-blanket might be a better fit.
