Households across the UK are being urged to use a single dishwasher tablet to banish tough-to-remove grease and grime from their microwave.
Microwaves are one of the most frequently used household appliances, yet they're often neglected when it comes to cleaning the kitchen. Microwaves may only be used in short bursts, but that doesn't make them immune to food splatters and if left unchecked, the layer of grime can become very difficult to remove. But according to cleaning experts, placing a single dishwasher tablet in a mug of hot water will leave your microwave squeaky clean in just five minutes.
Dishwasher tablets contain surfactants, enzymes and bleaching agents that help to lift off stubborn grease stains and food debris without all the effort of seemingly endless scrubbing.
It means you can put away your marigolds and your sponge, and simply allow the dishwasher table to work its magic, saving you both time and elbow grease.
The dishwasher tablet dissolves when placed in hot water to create a powerful steam that can break down stubborn microwave grime, with no scrubbing required.
Cleaning experts at Lottomart explain: "This method is absolutely game-changing for microwave cleaning. The dishwasher tablet is specifically formulated to break down grease and food residue, so when you create steam with it, you're essentially giving your microwave a deep clean from the inside out."
To clean your microwave, start by dissolving one dishwasher tablet in a microwave-save mug or bowl filled with hot water and stir until it has completely dissolved. Stick to plain, unscented tables and avoid anything with bleach or strong fragrances that aren't food safe.
While the tablet is dissolving, remove the turntable from your microwave and wipe away any loose crumbs or debris from inside. Then place your mug or bowl in the microwave and set it for medium power for four to five minutes, which should be long enough to create some steam from the solution.
Once the time is finished, allow the steam to sit inside your microwave for a further two to three minutes and then carefully remove the mug or bowl. Then use a damp cloth or sponge to wipe down the interior and the grease and grime should effortlessly come away.
Experts at Lottomart add: "The method works because dishwasher tablets contain powerful degreasing agents designed to tackle baked-on food residue.
"When dissolved and heated, these cleaning compounds create steam that softens and breaks down microwave splatters that would normally require aggressive scrubbing.
"What typically takes 20-30 minutes of hard scrubbing becomes a quick five-minute job with minimal effort."
