The Inner Circle viewers make the same 'complaint' about Amanda Holden's new BBC show

The Inner Circle has launched on BBC One; however, viewers were left comparing the new quiz programme with a retro gameshow.

Amanda Holden, known for her roles on Britain's Got Talent and The Spanish Job with Alan Carr, has stepped into the role as the quizmaster on The Inner Circle as she hosts her own solo show for the first time.

The game involves six players, and at the start of the game, they are each randomly assigned a secret stash of cash, ranging from zero to £4,000. However, there is a twist.

Only the contestant knows how much money they have in their cash pot as players answer general knowledge questions to try and increase their value.

In the final round, the remaining two players can choose to split the money or betray the other and attempt to take it all for themselves.

The first non-celebrity version of the show aired on Monday evening (October 6) and ended with two players splitting the prize pot to win £875 each.

After a tense game of eliminations and deceit, players Tei and Jacqui reached the final round, and both individually decided to split the cash. If one person had agreed not to share the money, they would have taken it all home.

However, some viewers of The Inner Circle were left comparing the show's format to Golden Balls, which was hosted by Jasper Carrott.

The ITV game show aired between 2007 and 2009, with the tense final round also seeing two players decide whether to split the money or take it home.

Taking to X, one viewer wrote: "Isn't this a rip of from the Jasper Carrot quiz show #TheInnerCircle."

A second stated: "#TheInnerCircle Can you imagine the production meeting that happened on Friday at Quarter-to-Pub..."Goldenballs had 'Split or Steal'. Kilroy had 'Share or Shaft'. What should we call ours?"

A third chimed in: "Was quite looking forward to #TheInnerCircle beginning but it’s literally Goldenballs with **** questions!"

"It's like Golden Balls with **** questions" another echoed, while one viewer exclaimed: "#TheInnerCircle The case meets the weakest link and golden balls-sadly an awful mash up."

"Well this is not quite the Golden Balls reboot we were all asking for #TheInnerCircle", joked another viewer.
