Camp Rock 3 confirmed but fans left 'outraged' as one huge star won't be returning

Camp Rock 3 is officially in the works for Disney+ and Disney Channel, 15 years after the sequel Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam was released.

The Jonas Brothers, Joe, Nick and Kevin, will all be returning to the musical franchise alongside a brand new cast.

Original lead Demi Lovato will return as executive producer, but she is not confirmed to be reprising her role as Mitchie Torres.

Instead, the long-awaited threequel will introduce a brand new cast of characters, led by Descendants: Wicked Wonderland’s Liamani Segura as Sage and Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires’ Malachi Burton as Fletch.

Also coming on board are Lumi Pollack (Electric Bloom) as Rosie, newcomer Hudson Stone as Desi, Casey Trotter (The Thundermans) as Cliff, Brooklynn Pitts as Callie, Ava Jean as Madison and Joy Ride’s Sherry Cola as Lark.

Reprising their roles as the band Connect 3, Shane, Nate and Jason Gray, are the Jonas Brothers, while Maria Canals-Barrera of Wizards of Waverly Place fame is back as Mitchie’s mother, Connie.

However, reports that Lovato won’t be returning as the film’s lead has sparked outrage amongst Camp Rock fans, with many taking to X to share their disappointment.

One user fumed: “camp rock without demi doesn’t make sense at all, she was literally the protagonist.”

Someone else wrote: “a camp rock movie without demi?!?? yeah they can keep it sorry…”

“Sorry but camp rock is nothing without demi… she IS camp rock… how can you do a third without the main star,” a third demanded.

And another fan wrote: “I’m not trying to be rude or anything but camp rock is nothing without Demi or Mitchie. This movie is gonna flop.”

A synopsis for the third film released via Deadline has given fans the first details about the new class of campers: “The story picks up when Connect 3 lose their opening act for a major reunion tour, returning to their beloved Camp Rock to discover the next big thing.

“As campers vie for the chance to open for their favorite band, tensions rise and friendships are tested, leading to unexpected alliances, revelations and romances.

“Camp Rock’s all-new campers include bold and determined Sage (Segura) and her easygoing brother Desi (Stone), cello prodigy Rosie (Pollack), drummer with his own beat Cliff (Trotter), choreo queen Callie (Pitts), intimidating influencer Madison (Jean) and camp bad boy Fletch (Barton).”

Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, said in a statement: “Camp Rock is an important part of the Disney Channel Original Movie legacy, with unforgettable music, energetic storytelling, and characters that live in the hearts of fans to this day.

“Bringing it back with Kevin, Joe, Nick and Demi is such a full-circle moment, and we can’t wait to reintroduce this world to a new generation.”

Camp Rock 3 will be directed by Veronica Rodriguez and written by Eydie Faye, who previously helmed 2023’s The Slumber Party.

Camp Rock 3 does not yet have a release date.
