About The Bengal Files

Released in theatres on September 5, 2025, The Bengal Files features Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumar, Anupam Kher, and Simrat Kaur in pivotal roles. Written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri, the film serves as the third and final chapter in his The Files Trilogy, following The Tashkent Files (2019) and The Kashmir Files (2022). With a runtime of 204 minutes, it stands among the longest Indian films ever made.

Set against the backdrop of the Direct Action Day on August 16, 1946, the story portrays the chaos and bloodshed that erupted in Calcutta and quickly spread across Bengal, including the Noakhali, Tipperah, and Comilla riots. The movie attempts to depict the violence as a large-scale humanitarian tragedy that left an indelible mark on India’s road to independence. It follows a criminal investigator trying to solve a missing person case, only to uncover deep political corruption. His journey runs parallel to another storyline—one that revisits the haunting memories of communal violence and the human cost of division.
