ChatGPT designs cozy, minimalistic room in viral DIY makeover: How this Indian woman used AI for stunning results

Kamya Gupta, a business owner and AI enthusiast from India, recently took a unique approach to redecorating her room by turning to artificial intelligence. In a project that has captivated social media users, Gupta used OpenAI’s ChatGPT to help redesign her space, treating the chatbot as a virtual interior designer.

Gupta documented the entire transformation in a video she posted on social media, showcasing how she worked with ChatGPT to reimagine her room’s aesthetics. The final result—a minimalistic, cozy space filled with personal touches—quickly grabbed the attention of online viewers.

A Simple Prompt, A Stunning Result

The makeover process began with a straightforward message to ChatGPT: “I need to repaint this wall in a colour that goes with the wooden flooring but I want to make the room eclectic and I need to fill it with frames. So what would you suggest?” In response, the AI suggested earthy tones to complement the wooden floor. Gupta was impressed by the recommendation and continued seeking advice from the chatbot throughout the project.

As the design evolved, the AI provided input on various elements including wall layout, art placement, and decorative additions such as neon signage. Gupta also shared screenshots of the furniture and lighting she wanted to include, which were then incorporated into a mockup generated with the help of AI tools.

A Personal Gift with Technological Twist

At the heart of the project was a personal motivation: Gupta was redesigning the space for her parents. When she finally revealed the finished room to them, their reaction was one of pure astonishment. The video capturing this emotional moment was part of what helped the post go viral.

In the caption of her Instagram post, Gupta wrote, “Honestly, this is insane. A thought that I had in my mind for years came to life just through a conversation.” She added, “As an AI enthusiast, I got to explore and learn so many new features just by being curious. Doing this for my parents, getting the best reaction, having all my core memories up, and finally having my chill spot—I’m thankful and scared of AI at the same time.”

Praise from Across the Internet

The project received widespread admiration across social platforms. Many users appreciated the practical and innovative use of AI in a home setting. One commenter noted, “Kudos to you for your patience and it’s good to watch people use AI smartly instead of jumping on to ChatGPT for ghibli.”

Another remarked, “You used ChatGPT the right way..and might I say it became your personal interior designer, credit goes to you for such good execution.” A third user commented, “The best use of AI I’ve seen in a while.”
