Chelsea are set to choose from one of Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen, Djordje Petrovic and Mike Penders to be the club's No.1 goalkeeper next season, football.london understands.
The are set to assess their goalkeeping situation when the summer comes around, with the west Londoners - as it stands - having no plans of recruiting in this area. Jorgensen has had to settle with playing in the Conference League, where the Dane has featured in all but one of the matches. The 23-year-old goalkeeper looks set to start on Thursday evening as Chelsea travel to Sweden to take on Djurgarden in the first leg of the semi-final. Like Sanchez, though, a lot of people are uncertain whether Jorgensen has what it takes to be the No.1 goalkeeper at Stamford Bridge in the long run.
The young and highly-rated Penders is set to arrive at Cobham in the summer after he was signed almost 12 months ago, but spent the season with Genk. Still just 19-years-old, Penders lacks experience at senior level but is well regarded as one of the most promising young shot-stoppers in European football - and Chelsea have extremely high hopes for the Belgian.
Whether or not that will be next season remains to be seen. Meanwhile, , who had a spell in the first team under during the 2023/24 season when Sanchez was injured, has been in sparkling form for Strasbourg in Ligue 1. The Serbian goalkeeper has flourished for the BlueCo-owned French club during his season-long loan and Chelsea are expected to give him an opportunity over the summer to prove himself once again.
Strasbourg boss Liam Rosenior admitted last week that he would love to keep Petrovic at the club for another season at least. "The more I see him here, the more he smiles, and the happier he is," Rosenior said. "It's to his credit. He has a beautiful young family who has settled in the area, and he's going to have a remarkable career.
"I love working with him and hopefully somehow we can still collaborate in the future. Whether it's here or elsewhere in five years, I'd like it to be next season."
Petrovic, though, is currently set to return to Stamford Bridge this summer and compete with the likes of Sanchez and Jorgensen for the No.1 spot. While many believe the goalkeeping situation is an issue for Chelsea, senior officials at the club retain full belief in what they have within the department at the moment and are not looking to recruit again, football.london understands.
However, the one goalkeeper on the books who appears to have no future in SW6 is . The Spaniard has been on loan with Bournemouth this season and has impressed down on the south coast. , football.london understands, and with just over 12 months remaining on his contract at Chelsea, the west Londoners are more than willing to part company in the upcoming transfer window.
